Weight loss is necessary for those who are obese or their weight is above the normal level that one has to maintain. Obesity is common in men, women, and children. The lifestyle and unhealthier choice of food among kids is a big concern as it leads obesity and other health related problems including diabetes. Maintaining weight at normal level helps in proper functioning of our body.

Why to Lose Weight?

  • The reasons behind coronary heart diseases are obesity and overweight issues. When plaque builds up in the arteries, it narrows down or blocks the supply of blood. Chest pain or even heart attack can happen because of the supply of oxygen rich blood flow is disturbed. High blood pressure, stroke, type 2 diabetes, high level of triglycerides, high level of LDL, and low level of HDL are other obesity related diseases which affects heart.                              
  • Obesity leads to respiratory problem. Burden of the lungs is increased as the demand of oxygen increases. This work load deteriorates the lungs function and thereby causes respiratory problems like COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), OSA (obstructive sleep apnea), and OHS (obesity hypoventilation syndrome).
  • It has to be noted that women who are overweight, are more prone to risk of breast and endometrial cancer. Other risks of cancer in colon and rectum, gallbladder, kidney, esophageal, and pancreas affect both men and women because of overweight.
  • Overweight puts pressure on joints and knees and causes pain. So losing weight can alleviate joint problems.
  • A healthy weight person normally stays active than overweight people who find it difficult to do their day-to-day activities.
  • Knocking-off those extra pounds by keeping fit and following strict exercise regimes not only helps the weight management program but also helps to boost metabolism rate. 

How to Achieve Weight Loss

            We need energy for our day-to-day activities. We get energy from the food we eat and it is measured in calories. The theory behind weight loss is to burn the extra calories that are consumed. The extra calories if not burned gets stored as fat and leads to obesity.

Following simple steps and some little changes in our lifestyle can help in achieving weight loss.

Don’t Starve

            Starving will not help in achieving weight loss. Instead it worsens the problem by creating adverse effect on body. Eating sensibly by choosing nutritious food in small portions throughout the day instead of few big meals will help in losing weight.

Don’t Skip Breakfast

            Many people do this mistake because of ignorance.  A healthy breakfast can kick-start a day with a better note as it boosts the metabolism rate. Skipping breakfast also leads to choosing wrong choices of unhealthy food when hunger strikes later in the day.

Drink More Water

            Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water to boost metabolism rate which aids in weight loss. Drinking water half an hour before every meal helps in easy digestion. Doctors advice not to drink water in between or immediately after the meal, as it may affect the digestive system by diluting the digestive juices.

Exercise Regularly

            Using the stairs in residential and office buildings instead of elevators is the first step to burn calories. This simple exercise not only helps in weight loss but also strengthens our muscle and keeps the heart healthy. Exercises such as walking, running, cycling, swimming, jogging, suitable to age and ability, should be done on regular basis to bring about remarkable change in weight. Becoming a member of a gym makes us to hit the exercise floor regularly as money has been paid for it. Under proper guidance of an instructor, weight loss can be easily achieved.

Yoga

            As yoga poses are attained by doing it in a moderate speed with proper synchronization of body, mind, and breathing technique, weight loss can be gradually achieved.

Grab a Fruit and Munch on Some Nuts

            When craving to have some snacks, consuming a fruit instead of reaching that cookie jar will do wonders. According to medical research, eating handful of nuts everyday can help in reducing belly fat, increase HDL, and thereby keeps the heart healthy and it is low in calories too.

Avoid Fatty and Junk Foods

            Fat loaded foods such as burgers, pizzas, French fries not only increase belly fat and weight but also affects health and heart. It is always better to check the energy chart in the food wrapper for their sodium, sugar, and fat content.

            Balanced and nutritious diet containing good combination of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, and minerals are essential for a healthy weight management.

Stop Drinking Sodas and Alcohol

            Sodas contain empty calories. As the sugar content is dangerously high in soda, the obesity risk is also high. Also avoid packed fruit juices that are loaded with sugar. Alcohol consumption leads to many health problems and makes weight loss a distant dream.

            Losing weight is not as hard as we think. Commitment, dedication, and self-motivation can go a long way in achieving weight loss.
