Proper skin care is essential for natural beauty. Age can be defied by taking proper care of skin. Sun tan, dull skin, acne, pimples, and under eye dark circles are some of the skin problems faced by everyone. Many of the skin damages can be prevented by taking proper care. Also, for an effective skin care, it is not necessary to spend a lot on expensive creams and cosmetics, when most of the things are just available in the garden or kitchen.

Each person’s skin type is different – normal, dry or oily skin. Accordingly, skin care techniques vary with the type. A person who has an oily skin should not follow a care regime that results in oilier look. Irrespective of the type, skins may be highly sensitive and react sharply with chemicals. It is better to initially use mild products on skin. So it is advisable to follow any advice after giving due considerations for both skin type and sensitivity.

Food-skin Relationship:

Food intake easily gets reflected on the skin and hence it would be a wise decision to select correct food for the skin. A food that has high nutritional value helps to maintain the skin in good condition. Consumption of junk foods and eatables that have high fat content are really bad for the skin. Occurrence of acnes and pimples are directly related to the intake of unhealthy food items. Not only the food, but other habits also play an important role as smoking and consumption of alcohol have their own effects on skin too.

An inner health leads to outer health. It is necessary to hydrate the skin by drinking adequate water. Drinking sufficient water helps in flushing out toxins from our body. Apart from food, regular exercises also make the skin glow by increasing the blood circulation.

General Skin Care Tips:

  • Always wear sunscreen lotion and sunglasses to protect your skin and eye while going outdoors.
  • Sunscreen lotion should be applied even at indoors as the rays get reflected from the walls and windows. A moisturizer with SPF should be sufficient for indoor protection.
  • Application of sunscreen with a gap of every 2 hours is necessary to maximize its effect. Dermatologists and American cancer society recommends wearing sunscreen as it prevents from skin cancer.
  • Broad-spectrum sunscreen products may be used for the protection against UVA and UVB.
  • Good quality sunglasses should be worn to get protection from UV rays.

Sleeping with makeup is not a good option. It clogs the pores and makes the skin dull. Hence, before going to bed, a good quality cleanser should be used to remove the previously applied creams, lotions or other cosmetic products on the skin. Cosmetics should also be discarded after the period of expiry. It is absolutely not advisable for using old cosmetics as they seriously affect the quality of skin.

A good skin care routine includes cleansing, exfoliating, toning, and moisturizing:

  • Cleansing cleans the dirt
  • Exfoliating skin helps to remove dead cells
  • Toning helps in retaining the PH levels of the skin (use alcohol free toners).
  • Moisturizing prevents the skin from drying or making it too oily.

When all skin routines are followed regularly, skin, the largest organ of the body, will also become the beautiful part of the body.
