Natural Home Remedies for Hair Loss

A head thick with shining and natural hair is always an attractive sight. In the present age, hair loss has become the night mare for both men and women. Genetics, hormonal imbalance, physical and mental stress, underlying diseases, side effects of medications are major reasons of hair loss. Although it is not possible to cure hair loss, the trend can be stopped or reversed with age old home remedies. Some of the popular home remedies are given below:

Coconut, Olive, and Castor Oil

These three oils help in reducing hair fall and promote hair growth. 

  • They are good natural moisturizers.
  • They give natural shine to the hair.
  • Prevents breakage, split ends and damages of the hair
  • Provides strength for the hair roots and thereby reduces hair fall

How To Use

  1. Take any one or combination of these oils - coconut, olive, or castor and massage directly on the scalp.
  2. Wrap it with a towel or shower cap.
  3. Leave it over night or for at least 4 hours and wash the hair with mild shampoo.
  4. Warming the oil before massaging on the scalp helps the hair roots to absorb more. 

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk prevents hair loss and gives strength.

  • Coconut milk has anti-bacterial properties.
  • It protects hair from breakage and spilt ends.
  • Makes the hair healthy and conditions it to make it soft. 

How To Use

  1. Grind half a coconut (just the white part) in a blender with little warm water. Squeeze the ground mixture and extract coconut milk.
  2. Apply the coconut milk on hair and leave it for two hours.
  3. Wash the hair with mild shampoo.
  4. Application of coconut milk mixed with honey on hair is also beneficial.

Fenugreek Hair Pack

  1. Fenugreek is the secret ingredient for hair growth and prevents hair loss.
  2. It has vitamins, proteins, and amino acids that help in promoting hair growth.
  3. Fenugreek contains proteins which strengthens the hair roots and promotes hair growth.
  4. Fenugreek helps in getting rid of dandruff and thereby reduces itchiness.
  5. It acts as conditioner and makes your hair smooth and shiny.

How to Use

  1. Soak 6-7 tbs of fenugreek seeds overnight.
  2. Next morning grind it to a paste.
  3. Apply on hair and scalp and leave it for half an hour.
  4. Wash the hair with mild shampoo. 

 Additional Tips:

  • Mixing a tablespoon of curd or teaspoon of lemon juice with soaked fenugreek seeds is effective for dandruff control.
  • Grinding few neem leaves along with soaked fenugreek seeds is used to get rid of lice and dandruff.
  • Grinding few curry leaves along with soaked fenugreek seeds helps for healthy hair growth.
  • Addition of few drops of coconut or almond oil to the paste provides extra moisture and smoothness to the hair.

Amla or Indian Gooseberry Pack for Your Hair:

  1. This is age old secret ingredient for your hair. It has loads of vitamin c and anti oxidants in it.
  2. It prevents premature graying of hair and also prevents hair loss
  3. Amla nourishes your hair and prevents spilt ends and breakage
  4. It promotes hair growth by strengthening the roots
  5. It also acts as a conditioner and brings shine to your hair.

How To Use (Method 1)

  1. Take two or three tablespoons of amla powder (easily available in the market or buy it online) in a bowl.
  2. Add two teaspoons of curd and honey and mix it with the amla powder.
  3. Apply on the scalp. Leave it for 30 mins.
  4. Wash the hair with mild shampoo.

How To Use (Method 2)

  1. Take 2 or 3 fresh amla.
  2. Grind it along with 2 tea spoons of curd and few neem/curry leaves.
  3. Add a teaspoon of honey or olive oil.
  4. Apply all over your scalp and hair. Leave the paste for 30mins
  5. Wash your hair with mild shampoo.

Curry Leaves:

  • Curry leaf does magic in the body for overall health and also for the hair.
  • This leaf has iron, calcium, phosphorous, and vitamins like A, B, C and E and what not.
  • Curry leaves boosts and nourishes hair. It strengthens the hair root and thereby the thickness of hair increases.
  • Prevents from premature graying and helps to get rid of dandruff.

How To Use:

Just clean the curry leaves and eat it raw. Alternatively do not throw away the leaves that are used for seasoning in the food. Instead have it with the food.

As a Pack:

  1. Grind a cup of curry leaves into a paste.
  2. Add 2 teaspoons of curd and honey.
  3. Apply this paste on the hair.
  4. Leave it for 30mins
  5. Wash the hair.

As Hair Tonic:

  1. Put a bunch of curry leaves in coconut oil.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan till the color changes.
  3. Let it cool down.
  4. Strain the oil and apply it regularly in hair.
